Adobe unveils new app for professional photography on iPhone

Adobe has released a new camera app for iPhone, Project Indigo, featuring advanced computational photography capabilities. Its lead developer, Marc Levoy, previously worked at Google on the Android camera app.

Project Indigo allows users to capture a sequence of images that are then processed into a single, more detailed and refined photo by reducing noise and enhancing dynamic range. Users can also manually adjust settings such as focus, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance to further improve image quality.

The app offers two shooting modes: normal and night. Night mode includes a long exposure option for capturing creative motion blur effects.

Digital zoom is enhanced through ultra-high-resolution multi-frame technology. When zooming in beyond 2x, the camera captures several slightly offset images—caused by natural hand movement—and combines them to produce a sharper, clearer result.

Project Indigo also brings features previously available only in Adobe’s desktop editors, including:

• AI Denoise – an AI-powered noise reduction tool;
• Reflection Removal – for eliminating reflections when shooting through glass;
• Real-time parameter display – showing histogram, exposure levels, and zebra stripes that indicate overexposed areas.

The app is now available in the App Store and is compatible with iPhone 12 Pro and later models and all versions starting with iPhone 14. Adobe recommends using the iPhone 15 or newer for optimal performance. An Adobe account is not required to use the app.
