Google Authenticator for Android and iOS Gets Cloud Sync
Google Authenticator has been updated for Android and iOS to support cloud syncing of 2FA codes with your Google account. This innovation improves the convenience and security of using the application, making it easier to recover codes when you change devices or lose access.
Google Authenticator is a popular application for generating two-factor authentication (2FA) codes. With the update to Google Authenticator for Android (version 6.0) and Google Authenticator for iOS (version 4.0), the mobile app now allows you to sync 2FA codes with your Google account.
One-time authentication codes are a key tool for protecting accounts from unauthorized access. They provide an additional layer of security when logging into an account by requiring the user to enter a unique code generated by the application, in addition to entering a password.
Prior to this update, codes generated using Google Authenticator were stored on only one device, which created certain difficulties and risks for users. If the device was lost or stolen, the user could lose access to their accounts set up using the 2FA app.
To activate the code synchronization function, it is enough to update the Google Authenticator app on your device. If the user is already signed in to a Google Account in the app, the codes will be automatically saved and restored across all of the user's devices. The company claims on its blog that this solution provides convenience without compromising security.
