Google adds Gemini features to Google Maps to improve recommendations and reviews
Google has released a major update to Google Maps, which uses AI to help users to discover new places based on their queries. For example, users can write"things to do with friends at night," or "places with live music" in the Google Maps and Gemini will provide relevant suggestions. Users will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the places they want to visit. Gemini will search for answers to these questions in user reviews
To learn more about locations, users can read a short summary. Excerpts from the main reviews by Gemini will appear on the card for establishments. The summary will provide information about things that visitors liked and disliked about a particular place.
The update also includes improved navigation features to help drivers reach their destination more easily. For example, it will indicate which lane they should be in to get to their final destination. Additionally, Google Maps will provide a better display of lanes, pedestrian crossings, and road signs on the map.
Google Maps will provide users with a preview of the places they can expect to see along their route. When users enter a destination, Maps will display key attractions, points of interest, scenic locations, and dining options in the area.
New features are being rolled out in the US on Android and iOS this week.
