Google Maps gains new AI tools, updated Recommendation Lists and more
Improved Location Insights Powered by AI
Google Maps now offers a richer understanding of locations through AI-powered features. Users can view photo highlights and key details gleaned from reviews, providing a more comprehensive picture of what a place has to offer. Additionally, restaurant listings may leverage AI to identify menu items, including cost, availability, and catering to specific dietary restrictions.
Enhanced Recommendations for Select Cities
Discovering must-see locations and hidden gems becomes easier with curated recommendation lists in select U.S. and Canadian cities. By swiping within the app, users can access recommendations from trusted sources familiar with the area, including Trending, Top, and Gems lists. This feature is currently available in 40 cities with plans for further expansion.
Greater List Customization
Alongside the improvements to recommendations, Google Maps introduces new list-building tools. Users can now prioritize locations within their custom lists and incorporate content from social media platforms. These list management updates will roll out on Android and iOS devices later this month.
Streamlined Design for Optimal Usability
A refreshed design awaits Google Maps users, featuring a cleaner home screen with a reduced number of tabs for easier navigation. The update also includes new pin colors to enhance the visual clarity of locations on the map.
