Microsoft has announced updates to the Windows Photos app
The new Super Resolution feature enhances low-resolution images and older photos. This feature includes a preview of Super Resolution for Snapdragon-powered devices, which uses artificial intelligence to enhance and enlarge images up to eight times their original size. Super resolution technology can be used to improve the quality of lower-resolution images, prepare photos for large-format printing, or crop images while maintaining detail.
The resolution enhancement can reach up to 18,016x32,000 pixels.
The feature will only work on Copilot+ PCs that have Qualcomm chips, such as the 12-core Snapdragon X Elite or the 10-core or 8-core X Plus. Users can access this feature through the Photos editor.
Another feature is optical character recognition (OCR), which aims to enhance productivity and simplify the interaction with textual information in images.
With the help of OCR, the tool can identify text within an image, whether it is a document, a note, or a screenshot, and enable users to copy it to the clipboard. Users can opt to copy the entire text or select specific portions for pasting into other apps.
OCR support is available in the Photos app on all Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices.
