Skype Introduced Real-Time Translation with Voice Imitation
Artificial intelligence continues to conquer all areas of our lives. Now Skype has learned to automatically translate and pronounce the phrases of people who communicate in different languages, in their own voices.
This means that you can have a conversation with someone who speaks a different language, and the translation will happen automatically, in real time, as the conversation is taking place.
This feature is designed to make it easier to meet or interview partners who speak different languages, as you no longer need to switch to another language or look for a translator.
The real-time translation feature uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically detect the languages being spoken during a video call and translate them in real time. This is done using a combination of speech recognition technology and natural language processing, which are able to understand and interpret the spoken words and translate them into the desired language.
If you activate the use of your natural voice, Skype will use AI to sample your words and tune the translation to sound like you, making the conversation more human.
Translations are available for a number of different languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and more. To activate it on a call, just go to your three dots "More" menu and select "Translate". Skype will guide both participants to start translating your conversation.
Of course, you can turn off the sounding of phrases and voice imitation and leave only subtitles. The feature is expected to roll out to group video calls and Telephony in the next months.
