TikTok introduces group chats for easier communication

TikTok expands the possibilities for communication and allows users to create group chats with up to 32 members.

Group chats are available for users aged 16 and above and allow them to share TikTok content with their friends and family without having to use a separate messaging app. Users invited to the group chat will be able to leave comments, likes and react to posts.

To start a group chat, users need to click on the "Inbox" button, then click "Chat", select the friends they want to include in the chat, and click "Start group chat".

Another way to start a group chat is by sharing a post with a group of people. If a user has a video they want to discuss with others, they can click the "Share" button and select "Create a Group Chat". The video will be sent to the people user have selected, and it will appear in the group chat.

There are some exceptions for group chat, that aims at protecting the security of communication. For example, a user can only join a group if they have been invited by people they have subscribed to. Additionally, if users have incoming message restrictions on the account, they will not receive any invitations to group chats.

If a teenager receives an invitation to join a group chat, they cannot join unless there is at least one mutual friend in the group. Additionally, when a teenager creates a group chat on TikTok, they will need to review and approve new participants before they can be added.
