WhatsApp launches a voice message transcription feature

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that allows users to convert voice messages into text. Users can read the messages instead of listening to them, making it easier to understand and respond to the content.

According to Meta, all transcriptions are processed on the device after the audio message has been downloaded. Voice messages are transcribed on the user's device and are protected by end-to-end encryption, so no one, including WhatsApp, can access them.

The feature will be turned off by default. To activate it, users need to go to the "Chats" section in their WhatsApp settings and select "Voice message transcripts". The language can also be downloaded there. To transcribe a voice message, users should hold down the message and select the "Transcribe" button from the drop-down menu.

Language support will depend on the OS of the user. Initially, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, and Hindi will be available to users on Android, but the choice of languages will be wider on iOS. Other languages are planned to be added in the а few months.

Users need to download the latest version of the WhatsApp to access new features.

The voice transcription feature will be available worldwide to Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.
