YouTube Music tests AI for user-requested radio stations

YouTube Music is testing a new generative radio feature. Users will be able to give the AI a text prompt, and it will select appropriate songs based on the user's request, reports 9to5Google.

The new feature will start appearing for random users. Once deployed, a prompt saying "Ask for music any way you like" with a note "Experiment" will appear on the homepage.

After clicking on this section, the service will prompt the user to describe the music they want to listen to. For example, it could be pop choruses, epic soundtracks, and so on. The service will select the first three tracks, with additional music being suggested as the user listens.

Afterward, YouTube Music will create a radio station and utilize an existing playlist card to display the results. The request will be used as the station's name and labeled as "Created for you" with a description.

It is currently unknown which users will receive this feature and whether a YouTube Premium subscription is required.
