US Department of Justice to block Adobe's $20 Billion Figma Acquisition

The US Department of Justice intends to block the takeover of the design service Figma by Adobe for $20 billion and is now preparing an antitrust lawsuit. According to one of Bloomberg's sources, the case will be initiated as early as next month, although the timing may change.

The news about the purchase of Figma blew up the Internet in 2022. In our article on top UI/UX design trends for 2023, we even wrote about how this event will affect the work of designers in the future.

Now the deal is said to be anti-competitive. Adobe disagrees with the allegations and claims that Figma does not compete with its products, but on the Internet the situation is already being compared to the purchase of Instagram by Meta Platforms, when a small but growing competitor was acquired by a large company for which this competitor was a threat.

The deal is also pending review by the European Union Competition Authority and the UK Competition and Markets Authority. These three regulators often coordinate antitrust investigations.
