Instagram is introducing several new features to the direct messages that include photo editing tools, stickers, and the new chat themes.

Users will be able to edit photos by drawing on them or adding stickers, similar to the existing editing features on Instagram Stories. Additionally, users will be able to create their own stickers from existing photos and use them in messages.

Instagram has also introduced new chat themes to change the look of chat. These themes include an autumn theme and one related to the new album by pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

Another feature allow users to add a cake icon to the "Notes" section (the status visible at the top of direct messages). Users can post a note on their birthday, so that their friends can congratulate them. Clicking on a note, a confetti animation appears on the screen.
