OpenAI has released the o1 artificial intelligence model, also known as Strawberry, which can "reason" and solve more complex cases. The new model is now available  along with a more affordable o1-Mini version, which has simplified functions.

For OpenAI, o1 is a trial project that opens up the possibility of achieving the broader goal of creating artificial intelligence that is similar to human intelligence. In practical terms, O1 is better at writing code and solving multi-step tasks than previous models. However, it is also more expensive and takes longer to use compared to GPT-4.

OpenAI states that the model "performs similarly to PhD students on challenging benchmark tasks in physics, chemistry, and biology."

The company also claims 01 could be used "by healthcare researchers to annotate cell sequencing data, by physicists to generate complicated mathematical formulas needed for quantum optics, and by developers in all fields to build and execute multi-step workflows."
