Facebook is trying to attract more young users, hoping to become the primary messenger app instead of TikTok, Instagram and other social media platforms. To achieve this, the company has introduced a number of new features and design changes that are intended to appeal to the younger generation.

"Local" tab

Facebook is introducing a new section called "Local" that will gather local content from various sources such as Marketplace, Groups, and Events into a single section. This feature will allow users to discover the latest events, local groups selling products, recommendations for new popular places in their area, and more.

The new section is currently being tested in several major cities in the United States.

"Explore" tab

Meta is also testing a new "Explore" tab that will display content from pages that users might find interesting. The section focuses on personalized recommendations and is based on an algorithm that displays not only entertainment content, but also content that is useful for specific situations, such as a trip or event.

The "Explore" section will have its own dedicated space in the updated app, becoming the fifth button in the bottom navigation bar on iOS or the top bar on Android.

"Videos" tab

The "Videos" section on Facebook is set to receive an update soon. A new full-screen video player will be added, which will allow users to watch short and long videos as well as live streams in one place. This update will make the user experience of watching videos on Facebook more convenient and enjoyable.

The Facebook Events tab will receive an update as well, offering users a weekly and weekend digest of upcoming events based on their interests.

Meta is also working on improving its dating service with the addition of a new feature called "Matchmaker". This allows users to invite up to five friends that will help to find potential partners for the user.
