A new leak suggests that iOS 19 may drop support for three popular iPhone models — iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. If this information is confirmed, these devices, released in 2018, will remain on iOS 18, but will continue to receive security updates and critical patches for iOS 18, similar to how iPhone 8 and iPhone X recently received the iOS 16.7.11 update.

Devices likely to get iOS 19:

  • iPhone 16 series: iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 series: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14 series: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 series: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 series: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11 series: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)

Although these models will receive iOS 19, some features will only be available on newer iPhones with more powerful processors. For example, Apple Intelligence in iOS 18 only works on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models.

iPadOS changes

In addition to iPhone, the leak also involves iPad. It’s likely that iPadOS 19 will drop support for the 7th-generation iPad (2019), which runs on the A10 Fusion chip.

Official confirmation of these changes is expected at WWDC 2025 in June, where Apple will traditionally unveil the new iOS version along with the first developer beta versions.
