Doly: a mobile app for generating 3D product videos
Doly, a new mobile app by AniML, lets e-commerce businesses create 3D product videos from smartphone captures. This simplifies the process and caters to direct-to-consumer sellers needing engaging product presentations.
French startup AniML introduces Doly, a mobile application designed to streamline the creation of 3D product videos for e-commerce businesses. Inspired by PhotoRoom's focus on product photography, Doly empowers users to capture high-quality 3D models using their smartphones and subsequently transform them into professional-looking video content. This innovative solution caters to online sellers, particularly those within the direct-to-consumer space, by facilitating the generation of engaging product presentations for marketplaces and social media advertising campaigns.
Traditionally, 3D models have been constructed from a collection of points in 3D space. These points are then overlaid with a 2D texture and lighting effects to achieve the desired visual representation. Gaussian splatting disrupts this conventional pipeline. It leverages a pre-trained AI model to estimate a 3D point cloud directly from a set of 2D images. This novel rendering technique offers a distinct approach to creating 3D models.
Doly simplifies the process of capturing 3D product models. Users simply point their phone camera at the product and move around it to facilitate the capture. Behind the scenes, the app captures still images and transmits them to the cloud for processing. AniML leverages a proprietary "Gaussian splatting" reconstruction pipeline to transform these images into a realistic 3D model.
