Google implements personal AI assistants in its Workspace apps
According to Google, this Gems integration reduces repetitive prompts and streamlines AI-powered workflows—particularly benefiting marketers, copywriters, sales professionals, and others who create content or engage with clients.

Google has given users of its Workspace applications access to Gems, a customizable version of the Gemini artificial intelligence assistant. Users of Workspace apps—Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, and Drive—can access Gems directly from the sidebar, without needing to open the separate Gemini app. Previously, AI experts Gems were only available within the Gemini application.
Gems help with writing and editing text (while preserving brand voice), generating presentation ideas, working with code, and creating sales pitches and commercial proposals.
The capabilities of Gems vary depending on the Workspace service in use:
- In Gmail, Gems can help write emails, craft resumes, and compose thoughtful replies.
- In Docs, it can assist with generating text, organizing documents, and enhancing writing style.
- In Sheets, it helps build tables, apply formulas, and analyze data.
- In Slides, it supports creating presentations and editing both text and visuals.
- In Drive, Gems help locate documents and manage files efficiently.
Additionally, Gems support @ mentions and seamless access to relevant data across Workspace tools.
Users can also create their own custom Gems using the “Create a new Gem” button in the sidebar or by visiting gemini.google.com/gems/create. Custom bots can be trained on user-provided documents, such as audience guidelines or project materials. Both pre-made and personalized Gems are available directly within the Workspace interface.

Google began its global rollout on July 2, with full availability expected for all Workspace users with Gemini access within the next 15 days.
