Google has updated the picture-in-picture (PiP) mode to make meetings in Google Meet "more engaging and feature-rich." Now, right from the picture-in-picture window, users will be able to:

  • Raise a hand
  • Use meeting chat
  • Turn captions on/off
  • Access flexible layouts
  • Resize the picture-in-picture view more effectively

This greatly enhances the user experience, given that Google Meet's current picture-in-picture mode only provides basic controls, such as leaving a meeting or turning the camera and microphone on/off.

The update has been designed to enhance both workflow efficiency and user convenience. Now it's even easier for users to seamlessly browse social media or watch muted videos during meetings.

Google said it might take up to 15 days for the updated PiP experience to reach all users. The feature will be available to all Google Workspace users and personal Google accounts via the Chrome browser.
