Meta changes its label from "Made with AI" to "AI info" for enhanced transparency
Meta changed the name of the label on platforms from "Made with AI" to "AI Info" due to user complaints.
In May, Meta began adding tags to photos using artificial intelligence. However, many photographers complained that the company applied tags to genuine photos that had used some basic editing tools. In response to these complaints, Meta decided to improve its AI detection capabilities and change the label name across the platform from "Made with AI" to "AI Info."
In addition to changing its name, Meta explains that its artificial AI detection tool could appear in several posts because the uploaded photo uses an AI-based editing tool. That is, this label does not only appear in AI-made images.
“Like others across the industry, we’ve found that our labels based on these indicators weren’t always aligned with people’s expectations and didn’t always provide enough context. For example, some content that included minor modifications using AI, such as retouching tools, included industry standard indicators that were then labeled ‘Made with AI’,” the company said in an updated blog post.
If you find a label in one of your Instagram or Facebook posts, you can click on it. Meta will provide a more detailed explanation that this label was created by AI or edited by AI.
