Microsoft is experimenting with a new visual interface for its Copilot voice assistant in Windows 11. Instead of the usual text or emoji, users can now interact with an animated droplet that responds to voice commands in real time.

The new interface is currently available to a limited group of testers. To try the visual version of Copilot, users need to:

  • Open Copilot
  • Tap the microphone icon for voice interaction
  • Go to Settings
  • Enable the Appearance option

Once enabled, a virtual avatar appears – an anthropomorphic droplet that uses facial expressions and animations to react to voice input, creating a more “alive” and interactive dialogue.

Microsoft says the goal is to make Copilot feel more expressive and human-like:

“We want to add nonverbal communication to Copilot by enhancing voice interactions with real-time visual expressions. This early prototype allows users to chat, get advice, or even joke around with Copilot in a more engaging style.”

While still experimental, this feature may shape the future of digital assistant design.
