OpenAI improves ChatGPT web search for online shopping
The results of a product search will be determined independently, using structured metadata from third-party sources to provide information about prices, product descriptions, and reviews.

ChatGPT from OpenAI has been updated, and it can now search for products upon the user's request, compare them and highlight their advantages.
According to Adam Fry, the head of product search at OpenAI's ChatGPT, in the interview with The Verge, shopping recommendations will be organic - there are no ads, and the results are not sponsored.
The results of a product search will be determined independently, using structured metadata from third-party sources to provide information about prices, product descriptions, and reviews. If the user clicks on a product card, a sidebar with more detailed information will appear, including information about the shops the product can be purchased and information from user reviews.
"Ask about this" button may also be available on the product card, which allows users to ask specific questions about the product to ChatGPT.

OpenAI has confirmed that it will not receive any commissions on purchases made through the ChatGPT platform.
The shopping feature is integrated into the GPT-4o AI model and i s available to all ChatGPT users worldwide, including those using the Pro, Plus, or Free plans, as well as those using the service without authorization.
