Figma Lets AI Agents Edit Shaders and Carry Them Into React
Figma now lets AI agents edit generative plugins and shaders through MCP, bringing custom visual effects from the design canvas into React code.
Figma has expanded the connection between its design canvas and coding agents. Its September 1 update lets third-party agents inspect and modify generative plugins and shaders through Figma’s MCP server.
The update also improves implementation: according to Figma, frames containing shaders can be passed to an external agent with those effects rendering correctly in the generated React code.
Designers can now view and download shader code, inspect code for their own generative plugins, and publish these tools to Figma Community.
For design engineers, the practical opportunity is bringing custom visual effects from exploration into implementation through a connected workflow.
