OpenAI rolls out a new AI coding agent for ChatGPT

OpenAI has introduced Codex, an AI agent that automates programming, correcting errors and suggesting code changes. It acts as a virtual assistant for developers, helping them write code more efficiently.
Codex, based on the Codex-1 model, generates code, runs tests and offers optimizations. The process may take up to 30 minutes, but OpenAI is planning to expand its capabilities to allow for background processing.
Codex operates in a secure cloud environment, with access to user repositories through GitHub. OpenAI itself already uses Codex for various tasks, including template generation, feature prototyping, and documentation writing.
Codex can perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and it is accessible through the ChatGPT sidebar. To start a task, users need to click on the "Code" or "Ask" button next to the text box. The status of all active tasks will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

In the future, OpenAI envisions that its agent will be capable of solving complex coding tasks entirely autonomously.
Codex is now available to subscribers of ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise and Team plans. It will also soon be available to users with the Plus and Edu plans.
