Microsoft's Notepad receives spell-check and autocorrect after 40 years since its launch
Windows 11 users now have a new Word-like spellcheck feature inside Notepad.
The spell checking feature, which appears in Notepad 41 years after its launch, will highlight a misspelled word in red. Users can right-click on it to see alternative suggestions. Meanwhile, autocorrection works automatically and fixes minor and obvious spelling or typing errors (which can be undone manually).
Unfortunately, there isn't a feature to perform a global spell check across the entire document, so you'll still need to click through each instance of misspelling individually to correct it.
The new features can be deactivated in Notepad settings or configured for specific file extensions (for example, only for .txt files but not for .md or .lic files).
Microsoft began testing the new features in Notepad back in March, and now they will be available to all Windows 11 users through the Microsoft Store.
